Learning Blog December 18

What did we do in class?
Today in class we watched "The Outsiders" movie as a reward for everyone completing their homework and after we watched "The Outsiders" movie, we did a quiz on chapters nine to twelve.

Why did we do this?
We watched the movie "The Outsiders" movie because the class made a deal with Ms. Lees which was, if everyone in the class finished their homework and brought it to school, then we could watch the movie as a reward. The class all finished their homework except two people, so Ms. Lees let us watch the movie and made the people that didn't finish go to flex. We did the quiz so that Ms. Lees could see if we understood what we read in the book, and also so that we could remember what happened and think more about the book, rather than just mindlessly reading without actually processing what we read.

Homework and Reminders
For homework, we had to study for the big test on "The Outsiders" book, from chapters one to twelve. Remember that their is a pancake breakfast from 7:00 to 8:20 tomorrow, and if you want pancakes, bring a can of non-perishable food. Tomorrow is early dismissal and we get out at 1:45, however, if you want to stay for the Christmas assembly, you will get out at 2:00.

Learning Blogs

What did we do in class?

Today in class we looked at our blogs. We discussed how our learning blogs are getting better and why we are doing it. We also talked about the Christmas concert and why it would be good to go. We watched a few videos on YouTube from previous Christmas concerts. Then we marked our vocabulary chapters 7-9.

Why did we do it?

We took a look at our blogs to see who did theirs and to also to get a better understanding of why we are doing them. We do it so that the teacher can see us write well because when we write for other people, and when other people are looking at our blogs there is more pressure put on us to make it better than just the teacher looking at them. We talked and watched the videos of the Christmas concert to  see what it was going to be like. Also because its our first year at Fraser Heights and it's nice tradition.

Connections ?

Connections outside of humanities are when your writing something for an audience you can try your best because more pressure is on you for example when you have to present something in front of the class.

Homework/Reminders

Make sure to finish reading the outsiders and don't forget to do all your questions and vocabulary so we can watch the movie. there's also a quiz on chapters 9-12. If you don't have time to read the rest of the story just read the questions from the package and try to find the answer.

Motivation

In class we watched a video on motivation. People were assigned tasks and the more difficult the assignment was the more they got payed. Motivation shouldn't come from how much money we get or whatever the reward is. People should be motivated by other things, some people play sports but they don't do it for the money they do it because they like it and enjoy doing it because it makes them happy. You shouldn't do it for the money you should do it because you want to, find your motivation.

Motivation

Motivation can come to you in many ways, however, most people believe motivation comes from money. In a video we watched, people were asked to do certain tasks, with three different difficulty levels; with the reward of cash. They discovered that if it was for physical tasks, paying them worked out, however, if it was a task using your thinking and problem solving, it didn't work out. The ones who got more money did the worst, and the ones with the least money did as good as the person getting the average amount. This video also proves that it does not matter how much you are payed, but how much you enjoy what you are doing.

Nelson Mandela was motivated to make people believe in equal rights for every race, and he did not do this for money or anything, but because he believed that it was right. Even while in jail for 27 years, he still tried to make this happen all the way until he got out of jail and became the first black president of South Africa.

Motivation

When we think about motivation we think about getting a reward. In the video we watched it showed that people had to do task. The harder the task was the more money they would get. The easier it was the less money they would get. The results showed that the challenges that got paid a lot they did worse than the challenges for less money. Motivation doesn't always come from money. People are motivated because they want to do what they are doing. For example if someone plays sports they don't play for money they do it simply because they like  to do and its fun for them. People are also motivated to do it because they want to get better for themselves.

Nelson Mandela believed in equal rights for all races. He was motivated to let everyone have equality. Even if that meant going to jail for 27 years. He still fought and protested. He never gave up and he kept trying. Eventually he became president, and he accomplished what  he wanted to do because of his motivation.

Connection from Mendela's life

1. I  have a strong feeling for human rights too.kept trying
2. Racsim should not be tolerated.did not give up
3.when he first got in to jail he wasexpected to saty there for 27 years so he stayed there for 27 years even when ofer to get out of jail.he was determined
4.even thought the government was stron he kep trying to do whats right.
5.he never gave on on his passion.

Montivation

Motivation can come from a lot of things For example, it can come from wanting something like money, respect, or even girls! however people who get more money at there jobs usually are the ones who fail becausee people with higher salleries have more harder jobs as in less money have simple jobs. The mostivation comes ffrom love and passion beacause i you want it if you want it so bad who will want it.For example, when someone decides to workout they do it beacuse they have a passion for it.

IDEO GOOD COLLABORATION

Good collaboration means good teamwork because it not always just you. To have good team work you must not shut down wild ideas. For example, when a person has a idea you might not be to sure of still encourage them to try because you will never know what the final produce can look like. Also communicate a lot.For instance, if you do not communicate how will you know to work with each other and your project will be different from what the other person said so you will have to start over. In addition you must take turn doing work because you can not just have all the easy jobs and have one person do the hard part and who can not bass someone to do this and that.At the end, good collaboration can lead to great teamwork.

Good collaboration

Good collaboration is a skill which allows you to work and get along easily with different people. It's sometimes hard to work in groups because you might not have the same ideas; you might have different opinions. When working with other people, you can't think you're better than everyone. You should give your teammates a chance and support all their ideas. Encourage their crazy creativity and don't just put it down because you don't agree. Their groups should each have their own role. Everyone must be included and feel like they have a spot in the group.

Learning Blog - Monday, December 9

What Did We Learn:
Today in class we talked about collaboration and relearned how to do the learning blogs. We also re-watched a video about IDEO that remakes a shopping cart in five day, and then we were told our homework.

 Why Did We Learn It:
We were taught how to do the learning blogs again because a majority of the class was not doing them when Ms. Snodden was here, so we now have to do learning blogs for an extra two weeks. We also went over the criteria for the learning blogs because a lot of people did not understand how to do them properly.

Connections Beyond Humanities:
We can use these skills when you are at your job and your boss wants you to do something, then you can know the criteria for the job on your own.

Homework & Tips:
For homework we had to write at least one paragraph on Good Collaborations, and we have to do Chapter 7 and 8 of The Outsiders questions and vocabulary. We also have a quiz on Chapter 7 and 8 tomorrow. Don't forget to bring in any donations for Adopt a Family and your $10. Hopefully everyone will bring their money tomorrow.

Good Collaborations

Today in Humanities, we watched a video about a company called IDEO and how they were trying to redesign the shopping cart in five days, which we had previously watched in September. This video shows good collaboration skills, and I believe our class could talk some tips from this video. Some good collaboration ideas for our class would be that everybody in the classroom should be more encouraging and open minded, because there are other people in the class and need to give them a chance. We should also be accepting and try to adapt on other people's ideas and accept them. People can take turns talking and some can step up and lead the rest of us, however, the leader should not feel superior over the others and make the other students feel lower than them.

Team work

Today in class we watched a video about a group of people putting together a shopping cart. They all had many good ideas and worked very well together l. I think we should focus and talk more about working together skills and things we can all do to help each other out, I think that's very important. In the video if they didn't communicate or collaborate well together it wouldn't have ended up well. I think we should discuss it more in class

Good Collaboration

Today in class we watched the video about the people making a shopping cart again to learn about good collaboration. I think that our class should talk more and give our ideas more often, but people are worried that they might get it wrong or they think its not so good. When people have good ideas they should say it and not worry so much about it being wrong.  Also our class seems very quiet, and some people might not know others very well so people don't talk as much. If we talk more we will have better collaboration.

Learning Blogs Feedback

Thank you for your blog entries.  I have added comments on the few entries actually posted and I would like you to read them.  I am greatly disappointed that there are several dates missing and a few members did not post any entries at all.  When I have nothing to mark it forces me to give students an automatic I.  Although this is a group blog, everyone needs to take responsibility for his or her share of the work.
