Instead of using letter grades like A, B, and C they want to give more knowledge to the parents and students on how their projects and tasks were done. It would give a better understanding of how the students are doing. With this new system it will help parents and students see where their strengths and weaknesses and where they also need help. The principle of George Vanier Elementary in Surrey said that letter grades are good but if you see an A they know that the student is doing well but it limits how students and parents connect over their education. They are hoping that with removing grades it steers people to more descriptive feedback.
With this new system it will help give parents better feedback. It will be better for parents because they will know more on how their child is doing in school. The district will decide during the summer if they will change to the new program permanently.

Hi Farisha
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you have a good understanding of the difference between reporting with letter grades and reporting with feedback. Perhaps some examples would help you show your readers what the difference is. You also introduced the subject and began with a look at the positive side of the issue but I think you forgot to share the opposing arguments and your opinion. Review the directions if you need some help http://leeshum8.blogspot.ca/p/new-current-events-blog-instructions.html and you can go back and edit your post (show your additions in a different colored font to highlight your improvements) or copy and paste into a new post and title it Revised post on Surrey Getting rid of letter grades. Keep up the good work - your writing and your paragraphs are improving.
Hi Farisha, you made a good point about why the district thinks this is a good idea. In your next post, try to extend and add your opinion. You wrote good paragraphs, and I like the way to worded this.
