Communal dining in resaurants? Should we have them in Surrey?

Surrey might start having communal dinning in restaurants.  Restaurants are being encouraged to have more “long table” dinners. It’s basically one long table where strangers sit beside each other or across from each other. They want to start doing this because they want strangers to interact and get to know each other. They want Vancouver to be a more welcoming place and engaged city for residents and immigrants.

Some say it’s a good thing. People think that it’s good because it will get people to talk more and know more people, make new friends. Also people think that you will have better manners. Ending social isolation in Metro Vancouver is another reason why it’s good.  People will have better socializing skills. This long table idea will let people bond and talk to new people. Those are just some of the reasons why it’s good.

Some say it’s not such a good thing. Some people think that others would like to go with people they know and want to talk to. Groups of people would probably want to stay close together and just speak to each other. If people are doing business or talking about personal things I don’t think they would be to fond of random strangers listening in on their conversation. Or sometimes people maybe just want to be alone and with different strangers sitting around them might bug them. Those are reasons why it might not be the greatest idea.

My opinion is that I don’t think I would like it. I wouldn’t because when I go to dinner I like to sit with my family and spend time with them. I also wouldn’t want to talk about personal things with random strangers .In pictures it seems like you sit really close to people to and I like it when its spaced out and not so stuffy. People go out for dinner because they want to spend time or talk to the people that they go with. That’s why I wouldn’t be to fond of it.

This “long table” idea is getting mixed reviews. Some like and some don’t. We will have to wait and see what happens. Restaurants in Vancouver have started the long tables maybe when they get more reviews on it surrey will decide.

  1. I really like how you seperated your ideas with other peoples opinions and for your own opinion. Your paragraphs were very neatly organized and easy to follow up with. There were a few grammer mistakes which can be fixed easily and next time try to connect some short sentences together with conjunctions to make your them flow better. Otherwise, great job on your current events post! :)

  3. Hi Farisha, I like how you have paragraphs for both sides of the story and why the people think this is a good or bad idea. I also like that you have an introduction and a conclusion. Your grammar is a bit off and you could also connect your sentences so that they don't seem too cut off. Overall, I liked how you stated your opinion and the fact that you had multiple paragraphs, which makes it easier for the reader. Good job, Farisha.
